Eastleigh charity takes lunch club onto the road to deliver meals during lockdown

Pavilion on the Park - based in Eastleigh, has been able to continue providing its services to elderly, disabled and self-isolating residents in the area during lockdown.

Eastleigh Youth & Community Trust who manage The Blackbird Café at Pavilion on the Park have been supporting the local community for nearly 60 years. Normally reliant on income from services and projects, staff were able to launch the Lunch Club on Wheels project with the support of a small grant from The Charities Aid Foundation.

However, this funding will soon run out, and the team have come up with new ideas to keep the service going. In response, The Blackbird Cafe have launched an Afternoon Tea delivery and collection service to support the ongoing costs of the Lunch Club on Wheels project.

Afternoon Tea is available Wednesday to Sunday for both delivery and no-contact collection. There are Vegan and Gluten-Free options, and if you are ordering for a special occasion, you’ll also receive a greetings card! Find out more and order online at blackbirdcafe.org.

Executive Director for the charity, Daisy Robinson, said

“All of this is possible with the continued support of our dedicated team of staff and our loyal customers. We are also hugely grateful to FareShare and the Co-op for their donations of food.

All of our service users remain well and are grateful for a friendly face and hot meal each day. They have adapted well to our new Lunch Club delivery service, and from a safe distance we ensure that they are safe and well.”
